\"An<\/a><\/p>\n

Green Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an environmental education programme run by An Taisce in partnership with local authorities, designed to promote and long term whole school action for the environment which is led by the students with involvement from the wider community.<\/p>\n

Schools undertake long term projects on environmental issues such as litter and waste, energy, water, sustainable transport and biodiversity. On a practical front the Green Schools programme helps schools to reduce waste, save money on waste charges and energy bills and reducing their overall carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

There are 78 schools and education facilities in County Monaghan ranging from primary schools, secondary schools, a college of further education and youthreach programmes.<\/p>\n

Many of these schools have achieved Green-Schools status and proudly fly the internationally recognised Green Flag. Following the award of their first Green Flag for the Litter & Waste theme, schools can renew their Green Flag award every two years by working on a new theme. There are currently ten themes which schools can work on:<\/p>\n

  8. Global Citizenship Marine Environment<\/li>\n
  9. Global Citizenship Travel<\/li>\n
  10. Global Citizenship Food & Biodiversity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
