\u201cWould you know what to do if a fire started in your home? Would your family? Take the time now to review fire safety facts and tips so your family will be prepared in the event of a fire emergency in your home.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Fire Safety<\/strong>
\nOn average 46<\/strong> people die in the Republic of Ireland each year from fire. Over 1,000 people suffer serious injuries from burns and smoke inhalation (HIPE & NPRS Unit ESRI*). In most of these incidents, a level of fire safety education and awareness could have prevented the fire or limited the damage.
\nA fire in the home can have terrible consequences. These include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The possibility of fatalities or serious injury.<\/li>\n
  2. The psychological trauma to the people involved<\/li>\n
  3. The irretrievable loss of personal items such as photographs, letters, etc.<\/li>\n
  4. The financial loss as a result of the fire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    General Fire Safety Advice<\/strong>
    \nThe three Golden Rules to follow to ensure that you and your family are safe from fire are:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Prevention:<\/strong> The best way to be “fire safe” is to make sure that fires never happen.<\/li>\n
    2. Detection:<\/strong> If a fire starts in your home, an early warning will give you maximum time to escape.<\/li>\n
    3. Evacuation:<\/strong> When you get a warning that there is a fire, you need to evacuate as quickly and efficiently as possible, using a pre-arranged evacuation plan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Most fires in the home can be prevented by taking some basic and common-sense precautions. Use this checklist to inspect your home for anything that could cause a fire. You can then take the necessary action to protect your home and the people who live in it.<\/p>\n
