This is the result of ten years of effort by author and ecologist Alexis FitzGerald. Alexis FitzGerald is a botanist and ecologist who runs his own ecology consultancy\u00a0business, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/scanner.topsec.com\/?d=1416&amp;r=show&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Ffitzgeraldecology.ie%2F&amp;t=1d53ab5df65b6da78a6bc5cc594463fab272c672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FitzGerald Ecology,<\/a><\/strong> based in Dublin, Ireland. He is an expert at vascular\u00a0plant, charophyte and bryophyte identification and habitat surveying, developed\u00a0over ten years of experience in university, professional ecological surveying and\u00a0with natural history groups such as the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland\u00a0(BSBI) and the Dublin Naturalists\u2019 Field Club (DNFC). He has been the BSBI\u00a0County Recorder for Co. Monaghan in Ireland since 2015, and the Editor of\u00a0<em>Irish\u00a0Botanical News<\/em>\u00a0since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The blue and white of the Monaghan county flag has its own natural\u00a0counterpart in the blue and green of its rolling drumlin countryside.\u00a0Looking from a bird\u2019s eye view, Monaghan will be seen as a land of\u00a0green pastures, scrub, woodlands and heath, intertwined with endless blue\u00a0lakes, rivers and streams. This region of Ireland is rightly famous for it&#8217;s\u00a0wetlands, and their outstanding diversity and quality are on full show in this\u00a0extended love letter to the Monaghan landscape.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/scanner.topsec.com\/?d=1416&amp;r=show&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Ffitzgeraldecology.ie%2F&amp;t=1d53ab5df65b6da78a6bc5cc594463fab272c672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Flora of County Monaghan<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, imbued with a wide variety\u00a0of introductory chapters on the geology, vegetation history, climate, land-use\u00a0history, botanical recording history, habitats and best botanical sites of\u00a0the county. These introductions are followed by over 1,200 plant species\u00a0accounts, in which are descriptions and photographs of the many wild\u00a0plants that make or have made Monaghan their home.
