Monaghan County Council is now inviting applications under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) Historic Thatched Building Stream 2026.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of the scheme is to protect the heritage value of historic thatched roof buildings across Ireland, including dwellings and other structures.\u00a0 The scheme is being administered by Monaghan County Council\u2019s Planning Section.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Eligibility Structures and Levels of funding available<\/strong><\/p>\n

The BHIS Historic Thatched Buildings Stream is intended to support thatched buildings in need of repair and conservation works.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Type of Building & Applicant <\/strong><\/td>\nDescription <\/strong><\/td>\nMax. Grant Available <\/strong><\/td>\nProportion of funding available <\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Historic thatched building<\/td>\nAny historic thatched structure, including domestic or commercial properties.<\/td>\nUp to \u20ac20,000<\/td>\n80% of total cost of works<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Eligible applications will be assessed for selection under the following criteria:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
1.<\/td>\nSignificance <\/strong>of the structure<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2.<\/td>\nEfficacy<\/strong> of the works<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/td>\nQuality<\/strong> of the works<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4.<\/td>\nContribution<\/strong> to public amenity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Note<\/strong>: An application under the BHIS Historic Thatched Buildings Stream does not preclude a separate application under the Historic Structures Fund or the main stream of the BHIS, but only one grant can be availed of per structure.<\/p>\n

Completed applications using Form A and accompanied by a comprehensive method statement must be submitted to Angela Gallagher, Administrative Officer, Planning Section, No.1 Dublin Street, Monaghan Town, H18 X982 or emailed to builtheritage@monaghancoco.ie<\/a> on or before the 26th<\/sup> \u00a0September 2025. <\/strong><\/p>\n
