The proposed “N2 Monaghan to Emyvale Road Improvement” project aims to provide interim road safety and travel quality improvements on the existing N2 national primary road between Monaghan Town and Emyvale village prior to the development of the larger N2 Clontibret to Northern Ireland Border Scheme.

The project has been broken into 4 sub-phases to facilitate design, construction and multi-annual funding. The first phase of the easement and minor realignment works extends for a distance of 1,510m from the Townland of Kilnadreen to Coolkill East, immediately north of Monaghan Town. Phase 1 was granted Part 8 Planning Permission in 2010 and construction was completed in 2011. Phase 2 and Phase 4 link Coolkill East and the settlement of Corracrin – it is proposed to start construction on Phase 2 and 4 as a single scheme in mid-2012. A 60km/h and 50km/h speed limit applies through the settlement of Corracrin and it is not intended to undertake road improvement works on the existing road through the village. Phase 3 will improve the existing N2 national primary road between the settlement of Corracrin and the village of Emyvale.

The proposed works involve widening, easement, realignment, improvement and overlay of the N2, road drainage and all ancillary works. Details of each phase of the works are given below.
