{"id":798,"date":"2016-12-06T11:33:49","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T11:33:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/monaghan.ie\/waterservices\/?page_id=798"},"modified":"2025-02-06T09:20:47","modified_gmt":"2025-02-06T09:20:47","slug":"checking-for-leaks-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/monaghan.ie\/waterservices\/checking-for-leaks-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Checking for Leaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leaks can be caused by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Damaged pipelines, damaged connections and \/ or damaged fittings<\/li>\n<li>Worn valves<\/li>\n<li>Damaged ballcocks on water tanks or damaged cistern valves<\/li>\n<li>Corroded pipe work and tanks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before hiring a Plumber we recommend that you check for leaks yourself. First of all, check the ground above your pipes. Does it look damper than the ground further away from the pipe?<\/p>\n<p>One of the easiest ways to test for leaks is to carry out a &#8220;night use test&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong> Last thing at night turn off all equipment that uses water (and Do Not use any water during the night).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong> Read the water meter at night and again first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>If the readings are not the same &#8211; then there is a leak.<\/p>\n<p>If there is a leak &#8211; the next problem will be to find out where the leak is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong> Turn off the stopcock in the building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong> Read the meter last thing at night and again first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>If the readings are different &#8211; then the leak is between the meter and the stopcock.<\/p>\n<p>If the readings are the same &#8211; then the leak is within the building.<\/p>\n<p>If you find a leak &#8211; get it fixed quickly &#8211; this leak could cost you money.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For businesses, industrial or farming consumers &#8211; a leak will mean higher Water Charges.<\/li>\n<li>Householders &#8211; if you do not fix a leak &#8211; you can be prosecuted.<\/li>\n<li>Leaks can also cause water damage to your property.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leaks can be caused by: Damaged pipelines, damaged connections and \/ or damaged fittings Worn valves Damaged ballcocks on water tanks or damaged cistern valves Corroded pipe work and tanks [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_searchwp_excluded":"","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-798","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
