Following ordination at Maynooth in 1937, he worked in several parishes before spending the majority of his life in Scotstown. During his time in Scotstown he was renowned for his devotion and a vast number of people believed implicitly in the spiritual power of the Canon. He also had a keen awareness of the community and is credited with bringing Muintir na Tíre to County Monaghan. This led to Tydavnet parish having the first rural electrification scheme in the county and the Tydavnet Show.
