Candidates are required to complete an application form. Applications must be made on the official application forms, and all sections must be completed in full. While completing the application form, accuracy is essential. All forms must be clearly legible and in electronic format. As a local authority there is specific information that we require from all candidates, therefore we are not able to accept CV’s and/or other additional documents. 

A Candidate Information Booklet is published for each position the council advertise for. This booklet contains details of the job description, the required qualifications, the principal terms and conditions including salary and the format of the competition. Additional relevant information pertaining to the terms and conditions of employment are available from Human Resource Management by emailing recruitment@monaghancoco.ie.

Each advertisement will clearly state the closing date for applications. Applications received after the closing date and time specified in the advertisement relating to the position will not be accepted. Only applications currently open for applications will appear on our website under current vacancies.

No, shortlisting of applications may apply depending on the number of applications received. The information you supply in the application form will play a central part of the shortlisting process as it is the only information that can be considered.

An expert board will examine the application forms against a pre-determined criteria based on the qualifications and requirements of the position. Candidates most likely to meet the standard required will be called for interview.

Human Resources are responsible for all arrangements relating to your interview. Candidates will be invited to attend for interview either in person or through a virtual platform where necessary. i.e. MS Teams. You will be notified of your interview date and time approximately 10 days before the interview. Your invitation will state the names of the members of the interview board and their roles, and will list the competencies, in which you will be examined in the interview.

A competency-based interview allows the interview board to assess the extent to which a candidate demonstrates specific skills, essential knowledge, and attributes for the role in question. All candidates will be advised of the relevant competencies for the position in the candidate information booklet.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory work references, medical assessments, verification of qualifications (where necessary) and Garda Vetting (where required). Monaghan County Council requires any person to whom an appointment is offered to take up employment within one month of the offer being accepted.
