Monaghan County Museum received national recognition for it’s offsite collection storage facility with the award for Best Collections Care in the 2004 Museum of the Year Awards. The store, houses the bulk of the Museum’s collection is climatically controlled for light, relative humidity and temperature. These levels are monitored by a series of electronic sensors that are placed around the store. The building also houses the museum’s conservation lab and object registration room. It was this commitment to professional excellence that saw the museum beat off competition from museums on both sides of the border to clinch the award, which was accepted on behalf of the museum and Monaghan County Council by Curator, Liam Bradley.
