William of Orange Fireguard
This fireguard contains a linen napkin depicting King William of Orange, victor of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, surrounded by crowns and other symbols. He is shown in characteristic pose on a white horse holding his sword aloft. This item indicates the closeness of political and domestic life commonly found in Ireland. Although depicting a 17th century event both napkins and firescreen appear to be of 20th century manufacture.
