Fresh on the back of picking up the overall Award of Local Authority of The Year 2017 and Joint Local Authority Initiative for the Cavan-Monaghan Science Festival in partnership with Cavan County Council in 2017, Monaghan County Council are delighted to be shortlisted in 10 award categories in the 2018 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.
The annual awards scheme, which is hosted in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, acknowledges and encourages best practice and constructive initiatives by local authorities and is aimed at enhancing the positive relationships that already exist between chambers, businesses and their respective local authorities.
Monaghan County Council has been shortlisted in 10 of the 16 categories:

Refurbishment of the Carrickmacross Market House Building (Supporting Tourism)
Monaghan Town Voucher (Promoting Economic Development)
Community Property Marking Scheme (Local Authority Innovation)
The Derryvalley Catchment Project (Sustainable Environment)
DRUM – Portrait of a Village (Sustaining the Arts)

Redevelopment of Ballybay Town Park (Outstanding initiative through the Municipal Districts)

Councillor David Maxwell, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, commented, “I am delighted to learn that the Council has been shortlisted in 10 separate categories of what is a very prestigious awards scheme for the Local Government sector in Ireland.”

The Excellence in Local Government Award winners will be announced at the 15th Annual Awards Ceremony on 22nd November 2018 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood, Santry, Co Dublin. Awards will be presented for excellence in sixteen different categories and one local authority will be awarded the overall award and named Local Authority of the Year 2018.
