Water supply returning to customers in Monaghan supplied by Newbliss and Smithborough Water Supply Schemes following Storm Éowyn
Alternative water supply in place to support customers
Monday, 27 January 2025: Uisce Éireann crews are working closely with ESB to prioritise the return of power to water treatment plants and pumping stations across the county following the impact of Storm Éowyn.
Power has been restored to the Smithborough Water Supply Scheme and a generator has been deployed to Newbliss Water Supply Scheme. It will take a number of hours for the reservoir and networks to fully replenish and for normal supply to be restored to all customers, in particular those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
To support customers in the interim, an alternative water supply in the form of a bulk tanker is now in place at the following location:
- The Mace filling station in Smithborough
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per advice from the Health Service Executive, which we understand is a challenge at this time.
Peadar McGuinness, Uisce Éireann said: “Uisce Éireann crews and ESB Networks are continuing to work together to restore power to all areas so that production of treated water can recommence as quickly and as safely as possible.”
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
