The latest stunning street mural produced as part of the Monaghan Murals project was unveiled this week on the wall of Monaghan Town Bus Station. Monaghan County Museum developed this project in 2021 in partnership with the Patrick Kavanagh Centre. For this new and transformative work of street art celebrating the biodiversity of the town, the Museum have partnered with Monaghan Tidy Towns to help in their initiative to have Monaghan Town become the first Biodiversity Town in the country. This new mural marked the fifth such piece to be created in towns across the county with plans for many more.

Monaghan Murals is a project funded by Creative Ireland through Creative Monaghan locally to develop a series of international quality street murals throughout the towns of County Monaghan. It forms part of a wider strategy to support creativity in the community and pride of place.  These murals reflect various aspects of the history, heritage, and folklore of the county with the aims enhancing the visual appearance of each townscape; to instil community pride of place; support community development and engagement through arts practice, provide artists with meaningful opportunity and to achieve increased tourist footfall for a Monaghan Murals experience throughout the county.
