Castleblayney Library is proud to announce the grand opening of its new Sensory Room, a purpose-built environment designed to support individuals with sensory needs. The official launch took place on Tuesday, 29th April when practitioners, support services and caregivers were invited to explore the space and resources. Library staff were on-hand to demonstrate the resources and explain how the room can be booked and used.
Robert Burns, Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council attended the opening and was delighted to welcome Monaghan Autism Friendly, Tusla, Camphill Community, teachers, parents and Special Needs Assistants to learn more about this new facility.
“The new Sensory Room at Castleblayney Library represents our commitment to creating inclusive spaces where everyone in our community can thrive” said Robert Burns “We’re very proud to offer this resource.”
The Sensory Room offers a calm, inclusive environment where visitors can regulate their sensory input in a safe and supportive setting. It is equipped with specialised resources designed to accommodate various sensory preferences and needs.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this essential resource to our community,” said Deirdriú McQuaid, County Librarian. “We aim to provide inclusive library spaces where everyone feels welcome and supported.”

The Sensory Room will be available free of charge and can be booked for individual or small group sessions. It aims to make the library more accessible to those with sensory processing differences and anyone who may benefit from a sensory environment.
