Cllr PJ O’Hanlon Elected as New Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council

 

Monaghan County Council is delighted to announce the election of Cllr PJ O’Hanlon as Cathaoirleach following today’s Annual General Meeting.

First elected as a public representative in 2004, Cllr O’Hanlon representing Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District brings decades of experience, strong leadership, and deep community roots to the role. In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, collaboration and working to a common goal.

Cllr O’Hanlon outlined his priorities including Housing provision, attracting new businesses, revitalising town centres and rural development – all with the aim of building thriving local towns, villages and communities across County Monaghan.

“It’s a great honour to be elected Cathaoirleach and for allowing me the opportunity to chair Monaghan County Council. Every member in this chamber has one common goal – delivering for the people of Monaghan. I look forward to representing the people of Co. Monaghan and working to ensure our county is a great place to live, work and visit.”

We also welcome the election of Councillor Richard Truell as Leas-Chathaoirleach, and extend our gratitude to outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr Paul Gibbons and Leas-Chathaoirleach Cllr Peter Conlon for their outstanding service over the past year.
