Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley has announced €125,000 to Monaghan County Council for a Teen Haven in Clones. This project titled “Where Stories Unfold” will provide a safe and recreational space for teenagers.
Minister Foley said at the launch: “I am delighted to announce the successful applicants to the Making Spaces for and with Teenagers Pilot Project. This funding of €500,000 from the Dormant Accounts Fund will provide innovative and exciting recreational spaces for Irish teenagers. By providing safe, inclusive spaces for our young people to meet and spend time together, we are investing in the future of our communities and allowing young people to thrive, learn and grow.
I am also very pleased that young people were given a strong voice in both developing the projects and assessing the quality of the final applications.”
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council Cllr. P.J O’Hanlon said “Young people are our future, and it is important that we invest in those futures. I thank the Department of Children, Disability and Equality for securing this funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund. I also congratulate all the young people across County Monaghan who gave their time and their valuable contribution into the submission of the application. I look forward to seeing this project develop and the impact that it will make on the lives of young people in Clones”.
Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council Robert Burns added “I am delighted to receive the news that Monaghan County Council is one of two counties to receive €125,000 for a Teen Haven in Clones. This significant funding will enhance the lives of young people living in Clones and surrounding areas. Monaghan County Council is committed to utilising all its resources to ensure that further funding is sought to enhance this project and it is my hope to see funding like this across all towns in our County in the future. I congratulate all the team involved and particularly the young people of Comhairle na nÓg and Youth Service providers who contributed with their ideas throughout the application process”.
