Listen to Monaghan County Libraries on Spotify!

Throughout the Summer months, Monaghan County Library Service have travelled across the county to speak to young book lovers about their favourite stories. Podcast guests ranged from aged 3 to 17 years old but all shared the same passion for reading.  You’ll recognise some familiar titles like Harry Potter and Diary of a wimpy Kid but these young readers had lots of other wonderful recommendations from new and exciting authors too. You’ll find all episodes now on Spotify.

We know spending time together, doing things you love, smiling, chatting and discovering, improves wellbeing. That’s why we have put together a range of Memory Boxes containing products and activities that bring joy and connection to people with dementia and their care-givers.

In our boxes you’ll find a range of items which have been specifically developed by ‘Relish’, a company who are committed to improving the wellbeing of people with dementia. Every one of their products is designed to affect the different levers that lead to overall wellbeing. We’ve also included a beautiful selection of photography books to use as a starting point for reminiscence and conversation.

Eduroam is now available in our branch libraries.

Eduroam Secure WiFi now available

Eduroam is a federated service that allows roaming research and educational users to more easily obtain Internet access via the WiFi service at participating sites. When attaching to eduroam WiFi users are authenticated via their home site. If authentication succeeds the user is granted wireless network access.

The following are the details of eduroam WiFi offered at Monaghan Libraries:
•Wireless network name (SSID): eduroam
•Encryption levels supported: AES
•Port/Protocol restrictions? : Yes
•Transparent proxying of your traffic? : No
•Network Address Translation (NAT) of wireless device address? : Yes
•IPv6 support? : No

Note that authentication problems should be addressed to the support staff at your home site, as the security mechanisms within eduroam mean that much of the detail of the authentication step is not visible to the support staff at visited sites.

It’s Competition Time for Primary and Secondary School Students!

We are working with the office of the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council and our colleagues in Monaghan County Museum to give primary and secondary students and their schools the chance to win some amazing prizes.
As we come to the latter stage of the period known as the decade of commemorations, Monaghan County Council through the Office of the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council and the it’s Library and Museum services, invites children and young people to research and write about this period in time for County Monaghan. This competition intends to compliment the history curriculum in primary and secondary schools. We hope it can promote the learning of our history by students particularly in the context of County Monaghan.

Unfortunately, there will be some service disruption in the lead up to the launch of the new system.

From March 21st – 28th, your online account will be temporarily unavailable and you will not be able to reserve items online.
