Road Closures

Temporary Road Closure and Traffic Arrangements for the McKenna Brothers Homecoming Event

To facilitate the McKenna Brothers Homecoming Event in Monaghan Town, a temporary road closure will be in place on Thursday 13 August 2026.

Time: 6.00pm to 10.00pm

Road Affected:
R867 – Church Square, Monaghan
(From Rossmore Monument to Church Square)

Access for Beech Hill College Debs

To help accommodate guests attending the Beech Hill College Debs at the Westenra Hotel, access to The Diamond area will be available via Lower Mill Street (LS5515) between 6.00pm and 6.30pm.

Please note that Lower Mill Street will close to all traffic from 6.30pm.

Diversion Routes

Westbound Traffic

Westbound traffic approaching from Glaslough Street (N54-12) will be diverted at the Diamond (R-867-1) left onto Dublin Street (N-54-12) then take the 3rd exit at the roundabout at Old Cross Square onto Broad Road (N-54-12) then right at the junction of Macartan Road and Market Road onto Dawson Street (N-54-13)

Eastbound Traffic

Eastbound traffic approaching from Dawson Street (N54-13) will be diverted straight ahead along North Road (N54-8), then turn right onto Glaslough Street (N54-12) then continue straight ahead onto The Diamond (R-867-1).

Courthouse Car Park Access

Entrance and exit to and from the Courthouse carpark will be via Broad Road (N-54-10) and Castle Road (LT-14121-0)

Existing entrance and exit to and from the courthouse carpark onto Church Square (R-867-1) will be closed for the duration of the event

Signage

All Detours will be signposted in order to direct the Traffic.

N54 Broad Road 2026 Roadworks

Monaghan County Council will postpone closing the N54 for roadworks in Monaghan Town until 9pm on Thursday night, 13th August, to facilitate people wishing to attend the homecoming event for the McKenna Brothers.

Please note that photography, videography and drone footage will be captured during this event for Monaghan County Council communications, promotional and archival purposes. Attendees may appear in event photography and video content used across Council publications, website and social media channels.
