On Saturday, September 27th from 1pm – 6pm, the museum and the streets around it will be coming to life as the museum staff throws a street party to celebrate 40 years of serving the community. There will be an array of events taking place throughout the day including living history tours, art and design workshops, craft demonstrations, storytelling sessions, walking tours, stone carving, World War I cannon displays, urban art demonstrations, pottery classes, face painting, live music and much more. The main event of the day will be the official launch of Monaghan County Museum’s 40th anniversary exhibition; The Treasures of Monaghan, which will showcase the very best of the museum’s four decades of collecting. The exhibition will be opened by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys TD. Minister Humphreys will also be launching a commemorative booklet Monaghan County Museum – A Museum of Memories 1974 – 2014 which tells the story of the present and some of the past staff and those involved in the museum over the years in the their own words.
