Canon Terence J Kirke P.P.

A native of Broomfield, County Monaghan, he was educated at Broomfield NS and St Macartan’s College. He went on to study for the priesthood in the Irish College in Paris and was ordained there in 1931. He celebrated his first mass at the shrine of Our Lady in Lourdes. He was Parish Priest at Bundoran, Trillick and Tydavnet.

Canon Kirke was a man of many interests. He was a keen amateur photographer and won many prizes for his pictures, he will be remembered in Tydavnet for his films of local events. Following his death, the Diocese of Clogher donated his collection of cine films to Monaghan County Museum in 1988.
