Presentation of Full Accreditation Award to Museum Curator, Liam Bradley, Museum Staff and Advisory Committee members by Heritage Council Chief Executive, Michael Starrett.

Three of the Museum’s most prominent awards have been the coveted Council of Europe Museum Prize in 1980, the Gulbenkian – Norwich Union Award for Best Collections Care in 1993 and the Museum of Year Award (Commendation) for Best Collections Care 2004. The museum received further recognition recently by becoming the first local authority museum in the country to achieve full accreditation under the Heritage Council’s Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI). This represents 34 exacting professional standards covering all aspects of museum work. Monaghan Museum is currently mentoring other museums that are working towards these standards.
