Josephine Carroll
1914 – 2001
ICA National President

Born in Derrytreask, near Coalisland, County Tyrone; Josephine was educated at The Academy, Dungannon. She worked as a legal executive in Monaghan until her marriage to Dick Carroll. Josephine was a founding member of Monaghan ICA Guild and served on the National Executive as Treasurer and then President; she was also a founding member of the Citizen’s Information Centre in Monaghan town. In 1974 she became the first elected lady member of Monaghan Urban District Council and was also the first lady to occupy the Chair. An accomplished dressmaker and craftsperson, she taught classes through the ICA and VEC (now CMETB).
