Riding Spur

In the Middle Ages the Lorimer was the spur-maker whose status was similar in importance to a blacksmith. The late Medieval c.1500 AD horse- riding spur on display here is a very fine iron spur with its five-pointed rowel (spiked wheel) still in place. One end has a free hanging iron strap-tab attached. Conservation work revealed a silver inlaid pattern on the surface.
