The Ulster Volunteers were formed in 1912 and became the Ulster Volunteer Force in 1913. This organisation was set up in opposition to Home Rule in Ireland. When World War 1 began, many of the UVF members enlisted with the 36th Ulster Division. This UVF Proficiency Cap Badge is from the Monaghan Regiment and reads ‘Proficient Monaghan Regt II’ inside red border. Proficiency badges were awarded to members of the UVF on completion of training.
