The Patrick Kavanagh Centre enjoyed great success at the recent Chambers Ireland – Excellence in Local Government Awards ceremony recently broadcast online on Thursday 18th November last, scooping the prize in the ‘Supporting Tourism’ category.
The Excellence in Local Government Awards, supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage, showcase best practice in local government and recognise the skills, hard work, innovation and enthusiasm within local government.
The Patrick Kavanagh Centre was recognised as, ‘An exhibition and cultural space celebrating the life of
Patrick Kavanagh and the landscape that inspired his craft. The project has reinvigorated Patrick
Kavanagh’s legacy with renewed interest in his writing and the significance of Inniskeen as inspiration for his craft.’
Monaghan County Council had an impressive performance at the awards, winning three out of 11 nominated categories, including wins for ‘Festival of the Year’ for the ever-popular Cavan-Monaghan Online Science Festival 2020 and in the ‘Disability Services Provision’ category for the My Right to Vote – General Election Voter Education project.
