Public Consultation – The third Public Consultation for the proposed Ballybay to Castleblayney Greenway is now closed.  This consultation is in respect of the Preferred Route Corridor, which has been developed for the project.  The deadline for receipt of feedback was 11th of April 2024. Test

Welcome: Welcome to the Ballybay to Castleblayney Greenway project webpage. Here you will find information about the proposed greenway project, updates about the current activities surrounding the project, and links to the public consultation portal to provide your feedback.

The Ballybay to Castleblayney Greenway is a proposed 11.5-kilometre walking and cycling path that would connect Ballybay to Castleblayney in Co. Monaghan. In addition to reconnecting these two areas and their associated attractions, it is envisioned that the proposed greenway would improve accessibility to other local attractions in the area, which, depending on the selection of the preferred route, may include Lough Major and Lough Muckno, old railway structures, and the Castleblayney outdoor adventure centre.

Our Vision Statement: The vision of the Ballybay to Castleblayney Greenway is to create a safe and healthy recreational corridor for the wellbeing of all residents, communities, and visitors. It is envisioned as a place where everyone can connect, appreciate, and respect our varied natural environment and rich history. The greenway will be developed in accordance with the Code of Best Practice for National and Regional Greenways and will seek to integrate with and enhance the existing natural and built features of the region in cooperation with the communities which it passes through. The Code of Best Practice for National and Regional Greenways can be downloaded here. Information on Greenway Sustainability Payments can be found here.
