Background

The purpose of this notification is to explain how the Monaghan Town Webcam operates and to outline how Monaghan County Council manages any information associated with its use.

The Monaghan Town Webcam provides a live video stream only.
It does not store, record, retain, or process any images or personal data.

The live stream is provided for the purposes of supporting tourism, during festivals / events in Monaghan Town – for the duration of the event only.

As no footage or images are recorded, no personal data is captured, stored, or processed through this webcam system.

Monaghan County Council is the data controller for the operation of the Monaghan Town Webcam. While no personal data is processed through this system, the Council remains committed to upholding data protection principles across all its services, including ensuring that:

  • Any technologies used are operated lawfully, fairly, and transparently,
  • Only information necessary for the intended purpose is made available,
  • No personal data is collected,
  • Appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure that live streaming does not infringe on the rights or freedoms of individuals.

As the Monaghan Town Webcam does not record or store any images, none of the data protection obligations relating to the retention, storage, or processing of recorded footage apply.

Monaghan County Council will continue to ensure that all public‑facing technologies comply with data protection best practice and respect the privacy and rights of individuals.

The processing aligns with the statutory and policy functions of public bodies in supporting tourism development, while being proportionate, transparent, and subject to appropriate safeguards

Monaghan County Council has provided the necessary information on this processing activity in signage which will be displayed in a prominent place and can be seen clearly by members of the public.
