Monaghan County Council was delighted to mark the official launch of Africa Day 2026, which took place on Monday, 25th May 2026 in the Peace Campus.
The event was formally launched with photographs with Cathaoirleach Cllr PJ O’Hanlon, Director of Services Patricia Monahan, Elected Members of Monaghan County Council and members of the African Community. Also in attendance were representatives from the newly established Monaghan African Community Association.
Speaking at the launch, Chairman Luciano Gungo reflected on the journey of the African community in Monaghan, emphasising the importance of unity, cultural pride, and inclusion.
Africa Day celebrations will bring together people from all backgrounds to celebrate African culture through music, food, art, and storytelling. The event promises to be a vibrant and inclusive occasion, showcasing the diversity and talent within our county.
