The Drumlin Storytelling Festival has unveiled an exciting programme of events taking place across County Monaghan from 18th to 20th September 2026, celebrating the rich tradition of oral storytelling through performances, walks, music and family events.
The festival, now in its third year, welcomes renowned storytellers Kate Corkery, Seosamh Ó Maolalaí, Riikka Palonen, Laura Sherry, Paddy Sherry and festival MC Francis McCarron, who will bring audiences on journeys through folklore, history, nature and imagination.
Cllr. Aidan Campbell, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, said: “The Drumlin Storytelling Festival is a fantastic showcase of Monaghan’s rich storytelling tradition. Festival highlights include the Culture Night events at Cornagilta School and Heritage Centre and Greenan’s Cross Heritage Centre, storytelling in the unique surroundings of Bessmount House, a guided Monaghan Town Story Tour, family story time sessions in libraries across the county, and a community Story Swap in the historic Market House.
The programme also features storytelling sessions for schools and nursing homes, an Irish language event at An Nead café, a nature-inspired ‘Story Walk’ through Rossmore Park, and opportunities to enjoy storytelling accompanied by traditional music in some of Monaghan’s most distinctive venues. Audiences can also look forward to performances by acclaimed Finnish pianist Kalle Peura and Comhleá, a newly formed musical collaboration featuring musicians from Finland, Canada and Ireland, bringing an international dimension to this year’s festival.

It’s fantastic to see how that has developed into the Drumlin Storytelling Festival, now in its third year. The festival continues to grow and attract new audiences while celebrating the storytelling traditions that are such an important part of our culture and community life.”
