Ulster Canal Greenway, Phase 3 – Smithborough to Clones

Ulster Canal Greenway

Public Consultation Events

Monaghan County Council is working to deliver Phase 3 of the Ulster Canal Greenway. Route Options have now been developed and two Public Consultation events for communities along the proposed route will take place in the coming weeks. Landowners, local communities and the general public are invited to attend to review the route options and provide feedback to the project team.

The drop-in sessions will be held in;

1. Smithborough Community Hall
Tuesday 26th October 5-8pm

2. The Courthouse, Clones
Wednesday 3rd November 5-8pm

The Preferred Route Drawings for Phase 2, Smithborough to Middletown will also be on display on the night and the Phase 2 Project Team will be in attendance to meet with stakeholders.

Temporary Closing of Roads

Monaghan County Council gives notice of its intention to close the following road in the Municipal District of Monaghan in County Monaghan:

Date of Closure: 26th October 2021 – 29th October 2021

Times: 8am – 6pm

Roads Closed: LP-1002: For a distance of 100m on the west side of Barritoppy Cross (Courtneys Cross) LS-5040 in the townland of Tonystackan.

Diversion Route:

Westbound traffic Via the LP-1002 at the townland of Tonystackan.
Eastbound traffic Via the LS-5060 at the townland of Carnquill
All Detours will be signposted in order to direct the Traffic. (Local Access and Emergency Vehicles will be catered for at all times).

Any interested person may lodge an objection to the closing of the above-mentioned road with the Head of Roads, Monaghan County Council, MTEK II Building, Knockaconny, Monaghan not later than Tuesday 19th October 2021. Any objections must be clearly marked on envelope “Objection To Road Closure”.

Temporary Closing of Roads

Monaghan County Council gives notice to close the following road in the Municipal District of Ballybay-Clones in County Monaghan:

Date: Tuesday 26th October 2021 until Friday 29th October 2021

To facilitate: Sewer and Water Connections for new residential units

Roads Closed:
R183 Analore Street: For a distance of 80m between its junction with the R183 O’Duffy Street and its junction with the L2820 Abbey Street in the townland of Crossmoyle, Clones.

Alternative Route:
Westbound traffic take R183 O’Duffy Street, N54 Monaghan Street and R212 McCurtain Street.
Eastbound traffic take R212 McCurtain Street, N54 Monaghan Street and R183 O’Duffy Street.

All Detours will be signposted in order to direct the Traffic. (Local Access and Emergency Vehicles will be catered for at all times).

Date of Closure: Three Days between the 1st November 2021 and 19th November 2021 (8.00am-6.00pm)

To Facilitate: Resurfacing works on the LS6600 Dundrannan

Road Closed: LS6600 Dundrannan

Diversion Routes:
Northbound – Via R188 (Monaghan – Cootehill Road) then R183 (Ballybay – Clones Road)
Southbound – Via R183 (Ballybay – Clones Road) and then R188 (Monaghan – Cootehill Road)

Any interested person may lodge an objection to the closing of the above mentioned road with the Head of Roads, Monaghan County Council, MTEK II Building, Knockaconny, Monaghan not later than Tuesday 19th October 2021. Any objections must be clearly marked on envelope “Objection To Road Closure”.

Date of Closure: 18th October 2021 to 22nd October 2021

Road Closed: N54 National Secondary Road (between Monaghan and Clones).

Times: 7am to 7pm

To Facilitate: Road Resurfacing Works

Diversion Routes:
Monaghan to Clones Traffic via R188 (Monaghan to Cootehill Rd) to Swanns Cross and via R183 (Clones to Ballybay Rd) to Clones)

Clones to Monaghan Traffic via R183 (Clones to Ballybay Rd) to Swanns Cross to R188 (Monaghan to Cootehill Rd) to Monaghan)

Monaghan to Cavan Traffic via R188 (Monaghan to Cootehill Rd) through Swanns Cross through Cootehill to Cavan)

Local Diversions and Local access will be provided, and every effort will be made to minimise delays. Diversion route will be signposted. Emergency Services access will be catered for at all times.

Litter Management Plan/Plean Bruscair 2021-2023.

Monaghan County Council has adopted the Litter Management Plan/Plean Bruscair 2021-2023. This plan has been prepared for the prevention and control of litter within the county, setting out appropriate objectives and activities, for the three- year period 2021-2023.

Monaghan County Council wishes to acknowledge and thank the individuals, organisations, elected members and staff, who contributed in the preparation of this Litter Management Plan during the consultation and review process.
