Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection Receives Investment in New Structural Firefighting Personal Protective Equipment, Water Rescue Personal Protective Equipment & Battery Powered Pressure Ventilation Fans

Monaghan County Council are pleased to announce the handover of new Structural PPE, Water Rescue PPE & PPV Fans to firefighters across the county, representing an investment of approximately €322,000 funded by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM).

The new PPE will provide enhanced protection, comfort and operational effectiveness for firefighters as they respond to a wide range of emergency incidents, including structural fires, road traffic collisions and other rescue operations.

The equipment has been supplied by Sioen Ireland and HPMP Ltd., all recognised providers of specialist protective equipment for emergency services personnel. The investment ensures that firefighters have access to modern, high-quality protective clothing that meets the latest safety standards and supports them in carrying out their duties safely and effectively.

The battery-powered PPV fans were supplied by HPMP Ltd. and will be deployed across the county’s fire stations to support firefighting operations. PPV fans are an essential tool used to remove smoke, heat and hazardous gases from buildings affected by fire, improving visibility and creating safer conditions for both occupants and responding firefighters.

The delivery of this new equipment demonstrates the continued commitment of the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management and Monaghan County Council to investing in firefighter safety and operational readiness.

Welcoming the delivery of the equipment, Chief Executive, Robert Burns said:

“The acquisition of this equipment is a valuable addition to our firefighting resources. The PPV fans enhance our ability to clear smoke and improve conditions at incidents, and this equipment will help protect firefighters and the communities they serve. We are grateful to the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management for providing the funding that made this investment possible.”

Speaking at the handover, Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan, welcomed the investment:

“Our firefighters regularly place themselves in challenging and hazardous situations to protect communities throughout County Monaghan. Providing them with the highest standard of protective equipment is essential to ensuring their safety and wellbeing. This investment in new structural PPE will enhance firefighter protection, comfort and performance while helping us maintain the highest standards of emergency response.”

The new equipment will be issued to operational personnel across Monaghan and will support frontline firefighters in delivering an effective emergency service to the communities they serve.
