Monaghan to Welcome Home Aaron and Stevie McKenna at Civic Reception

Monaghan County Council will host a special Civic Reception and Homecoming Celebration for boxing stars Aaron and Stevie McKenna in Church Square, Monaghan Town, on Thursday evening, 13 August.

The public event will honour the remarkable achievements of the two Monaghan brothers following a historic weekend for Irish boxing. Aaron McKenna, known as “The Silencer”, was crowned IBF World Middleweight Champion following a unanimous decision victory over Etinosa Oliha at Dublin’s 3Arena, while his brother Stevie “The Hitman” McKenna secured an impressive first-round knockout victory earlier on the same card.

The civic reception, which will commence at 6.30pm and will provide the people of Monaghan and supporters from across the region with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the brothers’ outstanding success and contribution to Irish boxing. Monaghan County Council is delighted that Monaghan native and sports and entertainment presenter and MC, Gráinne McElwain, will compere the evening’s programme.

Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Cllr. Aidan Campbell said:
