Sod Turned on new IDA Advance Technology Building in Monaghan for the Border Region

Sod Turned on new IDA Advance Technology Building in Monaghan for the Border Region

December 9th 2019 – Monaghan. Minister for Business Enterprise & Innovation Heather Humphreys TD today turned the sod on a new IDA Ireland Advance Technology Building (ATB) in Monaghan.

The new c.1329m2 building, which will be constructed at the IDA Business & Technology Park, Monaghan will comprise 910 m2 (c.9,800 sq. ft.) of high tech manufacturing space with ancillary office space over two floors.

Supported by Monaghan County Council, the ATB is being constructed under IDA Ireland’s Regional Property Programme (RPP) funded by Government which was set up to address deficits in the commercial property market that were not being met by the private sector. This €150m programme has seen eight buildings already completed with the first six of these successfully marketed, and occupied, enabling IDA Ireland to attract and retain foreign direct investment (FDI) jobs.

These ATBs, which are designed to facilitate a change of function to advanced office buildings if required, also have a 100% expansion capability. IDA Ireland has 12 strategic sites and 34 business parks located throughout the country and the RPP also includes major capital investments in sites, services and infrastructure to enhance the FDI offering.

Further Government funding will allow the next phase of the RPP to proceed with the construction of further advance buildings including this investment in Monaghan and others in Sligo, Athlone, Carlow and Dundalk which will commence in 2020.

Speaking at the sod-turning in Monaghan today, Minister Humphreys said: “I am delighted to see construction beginning today on the IDA’s Advance Technology Building here in Monaghan.  It is a clear signal of the Government’s commitment to increase investment in the Border region.  I have every confidence that this new building will stimulate further innovation, investment and job creation for the people of Monaghan and across the Border area.”

IDA Ireland’s Executive Director, Mary Buckley said: “IDA Ireland’s Regional Property Programme has been instrumental in helping us attract investment to regional locations. Our advance buildings offer ready-for-occupation high specification, flexible and sustainable solutions. They allow investors to quickly establish and scale up their operations which is a huge advantage. This ATB will significantly enhance the value proposition and greatly assist us in our efforts to win new investment and jobs for the Border region.”

Clones Renewal Scheme picks up Esteemed National Award

The awards are endorsed by all relevant property professional institutes, representative bodies and State agencies, including Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, Irish Planning Institute, Engineers Ireland, Society of Chartered Surveyors, Construction Industry Federation, Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers, Industrial Development Authority, Dublin Institute of Technology, Office of Public Works and Enterprise Ireland.

Monaghan County Council beat off strong competition, including shortlisted Longford County Council to win the Excellence in Planning Award in the Public Sector.

Accepting the award on the night, Cllr. Pat Treanor, Municipal District Cathaoirleach said, We are delighted to accept this award in recognition of the Council’s urban regeneration projects in Clones, a rural border town that has suffered from dereliction and decline. Construction has commenced on the project which will provide much needed housing within the town centre, providing 21 new homes and supporting the revitalisation of the town.

Máire Cullinan, Regeneration officer said,

‘The project has adopted the ‘town centre living first’ approach in addressing problems of rural town decline. The local authority with the strong support of the community, has actively used its powers under the Derelict Sites Act and with funding under Rebuilding Ireland to put life back into the town core in a sustainable compact way, and to build momentum within the community for other development and services.’

Funded €5.2m under Rebuilding Ireland, the Clones Renewal Scheme commenced building works in September and will see the delivery of 21 housing units at six locations on Fermanagh Street and Analore Street.

The scheme will deliver multiple positive impacts, including sustaining town population, improving the vibrancy/vitality of the town, along with renewed confidence and stimulating development opportunities on adjoining sites.
