During the academic year, the Environmental Awareness Officer is available to visit schools to give presentations and advice on environmental issues. Monaghan County Council also organise events, seminars, workshops, competitions etc. for schools throughout the county.
Monaghan Co. Council also support a number of initiatives which enhance environmental awareness through schools’ programmes:
Green Schools Programme
The Green Schools Programme is an international programme promoting responsible behaviour among school children and the wider community towards the environment. It is also a learning resource raising awareness of environmental issues through activities that link curriculum subjects.
Picker Pals Programme
This programme is aimed at 6-9 year olds and is focused on stewardship, learning and fun.
The programme is rolled out in 3 steps:-
Classrooms receive the Picker Pack
- Each week a different child brings home the Picker Pack
- Children share their story with classmates
- Classrooms receive the Picker Pack

Relove Fashion Competition
The Relove Fashion Competition, aimed at 12-18 year olds, encourages applicants to take a deeper look at how their clothing is made and challenges them to explore creative reuse options such as upcycling, repairs, alterations and mending.
