Monaghan County Council Public Consultation on a Pilot CCTV Project for Litter and Dumping Prevention and Enforcement

 

Monaghan County Council intends on implementing several CCTV schemes which aim to deter, prevent, detect and prosecute cases of illegal dumping.

As part of this process Monaghan County Council is undertaking public consultation on the provision of CCTV cameras in public areas in County Monaghan.

Following complaints of illegal dumping at the following locations Monaghan County Council intends to install CCTV for the prevention of litter and illegal dumping:

Location 1 – Castleblayney Town – Commons Carpark, Co. Monaghan

Location 2 – Village Carpark, Newbliss, Co Monaghan

Location 3 – Scotstown – Rear of Catholic Church, Co. Monaghan

Location 4 – Ballybay – Entrance to Mart, Co Monaghan

Location 5 – Emyvale – Rear of Community Centre, Co Monaghan

Location 6 – Crescent Hill Bottle Bank, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan

Location 7 – Sloan’s Shop, Monaghan Town, Co Monaghan

Location 8 – Carrickmacross – rear of Supervalu, Co Monaghan

The CCTV cameras are for the sole and primary purpose of preventing litter and illegal dumping and enforcement of the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended, and the Waste Management Act 1996, as amended. This initiative will adhere to the Codes of Practice for the Operation of CCTV for the Purposes of Prevention, Detection and Prosecution of Litter and Waste Offences.

Submissions / Observations:

Your responses will inform the scheme’s implementation and help us address community concerns.

Your feedback is important to this process, and we look forward to hearing from you. All submissions will be considered before the CCTV Cameras are finalised.

The deadline for receipt of all submissions is 4pm on Friday 26th June 2026.
