Dog Pound

Monaghan County Council’s Dog Pound is located at Carrick Boarding Kennels, Lisdoonan, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, A81 YW71.
Stray dogs and dogs voluntarily surrendered by their owners may be brought directly to the pound (by appointment) between 11am – 5pm Monday – Friday.

Please note that there is a fee for voluntarily surrendered dogs.

The phone number for the Dog Pound is 087-9634121

Please also note that from the 1st August 2018 any person reclaiming or rehoming a dog from the Dog Pound must present the dog’s license for inspection before they may take possession of the dog.

Stray dogs admitted to the pound are kept for a minimum of 5 days. After that period has expired, Monaghan County Council will endeavour to rehome dogs through Carrick Dog Shelter (CDS), Lisdoonan or Dogs Trust.  However, if CDS or Dogs Trust do not have space or if dogs are not suitable for rehoming, then these dogs will be put to sleep.

An owner who wishes to reclaim his/her dog from the Dog Pound must contact the Dog Warden or the Dog Pound. They must present their licence and microchip certificate of registration for that dog and must pay a charge to cover the cost of collection and impounding of the dog.  If their dog is not microchipped and/or registered, they must pay a charge to cover the cost of microchipping and/or registering their dog before it leaves the Dog Pound.”
