Monaghan County Council is pleased to announce the handover of a new Class B Fire Appliance on Monday 19th October 2026 from Emergency One further strengthening the operational capability of Monaghan Fire & Civil Protection Service.
The new frontline fire appliance for the Monaghan Fire Station was procured under the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) Fire Services Capital Programme and awarded in accordance with the Office of Government Procurement (OGP) Framework.
The contract for the vehicle was awarded to Emergency One at a cost of €581,537.85.
The addition of this modern Class B appliance represents a significant investment in fire and emergency response services within County Monaghan. Equipped with the latest firefighting and rescue technology, the vehicle has a clean cab concept and will enhance the ability of firefighters to respond effectively to a wide range of emergency incidents, helping to protect lives, property and the environment throughout the county.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Cllr. Aidan Campbell, welcomed the new appliance, stating:
“This investment demonstrates Monaghan County Council’s continued commitment to supporting our fire service and ensuring our firefighters have access to modern, reliable and well-equipped vehicles. The delivery of this new appliance will further enhance emergency response capabilities across County Monaghan and help keep our communities safe.
Cllr. Campbell also complemented the staff of Monaghan Fire & Civil Protection for the great work they do 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
Chief Executive, Robert Burns, added:
“The arrival of this new Class B Fire Appliance is a significant boost to our operational fleet. It will provide our firefighters with advanced equipment and improved functionality, enabling them to continue delivering a high-quality emergency service to the people of County Monaghan. We are grateful for the support provided through the NDFEM Fire Services Capital Programme.”
The handover of the vehicle from Emergency One marks another important milestone in the ongoing programme of fleet renewal and investment in fire service infrastructure and equipment nationwide.
Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan stated:
“The demands on today’s Fire Service are also changing. Modern firefighters are required to respond to a wider range of incidents than ever before, including road traffic collisions, flooding, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues and a variety of support functions for our partner agencies in An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service. As risks evolve, so too must our training, equipment and capability.”
Monaghan County Council extends its appreciation to the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management and the Office of Government Procurement for their support in facilitating this investment.
