NCTAll vehicles imported into Ireland are subject to vehicle registration tax and must be registered with the National Car Testing Section (NCTS).

If you are planning on moving to Ireland or you are already residing in Ireland and importing a vehicle, you will need to do three things before you can drive your vehicle on public roads.

  • Register your vehicle with NCTS and pay vehicle registration tax.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is insured to drive in Ireland.
  • Pay motor tax for the vehicle.

What is vehicle registration tax?

If you have imported a vehicle, you must pay vehicle registration tax to the NCTS. You must book your appointment with the NCTS within 7days of the vehicle entering the State and have completed the registration within 30 days of the vehicle entering the State.
