If you sell your vehicle or trade it in for a new model, you must register the change of ownership. This is done in one of two ways and depends on whether the vehicle was first registered before or after January 1st 1993.

RF200 form is used primarily to notify change of ownership of a vehicle registered before 1 January 1993. The completed form and logbook must be submitted to your local motor tax office.

RF200 form can also be used to transfer ownership for vehicles that have never been taxed in the Republic of Ireland and which therefore do not have a Vehicle Registration Cert VRC.

RF134 form is used to apply for a new logbook, if the vehicle has been taxed before and the logbook has been lost or destroyed.

TF200 form is used to change the ownership on a trailer.

Selling Your Vehicle Privately

If you sell your vehicle privately, part B of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate, which you would have received when you bought the vehicle, should be completed and forwarded to the Department of Transport Driver & Vehicle Computer Services Division Shannon Co.Clare. You cannot tax your vehicle in your Motor Tax Office until the change of ownership has been processed.

Selling Your Vehicle To A Motor Dealer

If you sell your vehicle to a motor dealer, you should complete a form RF105.
