How to Pay Motor Tax
Online Payments
Online payments at may be completed at www.motortax.ie. The online motor tax service enables vehicle owners to pay their motor tax by secure link over the internet. You can access the motor tax online service with your PIN; the vehicle insurance details and details of your debit/credit card will also be required to renew your motor tax.
Your PIN is the last 6 digits of the serial number on the front page the Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC). Customers who do not have access to their VRC, do not have their reminder, or have lost their reminder can use the Pin Retrieval Service on www.motortax.ie

NOTE: Some vehicles may not be suitable for online taxing, e.g. first-time taxing of a goods vehicles, large public service vehicles. A full list of vehicles suitable for taxing online can be found at: www.motortax.ie. If your vehicle is not suitable for taxing online, you can forward your renewal to the Motor Tax Office by post to Monaghan Motor Tax, Market street, Monaghan, H18 D721, or renew in person between 9.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday.
Renewing by Post
Use form RF100A to renew your motor tax by post – you can use your preferred method of payment – whether that is bank draft, cheque, postal order or money order – or simply complete the credit card details section on the form. It is not recommended to send cash via post.
Cheques should be made payable to ‘Monaghan County Council’ or ‘Monaghan Motor Tax’ and the completed form and payment should be posted to the address below or dropped into the post-box at the front door.
