Monaghan County Council, supported by Transport Infrastructure Ireland and AECOM, is progressing the Coolshannagh Roundabout Active Travel Scheme, a key project within the Monaghan Urban Cycle Network. The scheme will integrate several active travel routes—including the N2 Monaghan Town scheme, the Ulster Canal Greenway Phase 2, the N2 Corlat–Coolshannagh route, and the N54 Tullyherim Lane link—all of which will connect at this major national road junction (N2/N54/N12). Recognised as a crucial node for safe and convenient movement of cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users, the project is currently in Phase 2 Option Selection, where feasible design options are being assessed. Overall, the scheme aims to deliver a safer, more accessible, and more sustainable travel environment for Monaghan.
