National Stop Food Waste Week 12th-19th June 2019

National Stop Food Waste Week runs from 12th to 19th June and the EPA is reaching out through media campaigns and into workplaces with hints and tips to prevent food waste.

This year is all about “Working to Reduce Food Waste” and throughout the week the EPA’s Stop Food Waste campaign will be sharing information and resources to help you and your workplace “Stop Food Waste”!

As part of the week, we will support businesses that want to get involved and provide materials for a programme of information, tips, recipes and prizes to be disseminated to employees during the week.

One day Sofa and Arm Chair Amnesty

This Saturday 15th June as part of Monaghan County Council’s Anti-Dumping Initiative 2019 there will be a one day Sofa and Arm Chair Amnesty at Scotch Corner Recycling Facility between 9 am and 1 pm.

There will be a similar event in Carrickmacross Recycling Centre on 20th July.

Don’t worry if your polling card hasn’t arrived!

Check you are on the Register at http://checktheregister.ie

As long as you are registered you do not need a polling card to vote, just bring photo ID to the polling station.

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm.

 

The documents which will be accepted as evidence of identity are:

  • A passport
  • A driving licence
  • An employee identity card containing a photograph
  • A student identity car issued by an educational institution and containing a photograph
  • A travel document containing name and photograph
  • A Bank or Saving or Credit Union Book containing address in the constituency or local electoral area (where appropriate);
  • A Public Services Card

OR

Any of the following accompanied by a further document which establishes the address of the holder in the constituency or local electoral are (where appropriate):

  • A Temporary Residence Certificate
  • A Garda National Immigration Bureau Card
  • An Irish Residence Permit
  • A cheque book

 Monaghan County Council Draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy

Notice is hereby given that Monaghan County Council has prepared a draft Local Authority Climate Change Adaptation Strategy in accordance with the provisions of The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and the National Adaptation Framework (NAF), 2018.

Climate change is recognised as a global challenge with policy responses required in terms of both mitigating the causes of climate change and in adapting to the inevitable consequences of our changing climate. The Climate Change Adaptation Strategy represents a proactive step by Monaghan County Council in the process of adaptation planning to build resilience and respond effectively to the threats posed by climate change.

Purpose of the Strategy:

The Climate Change Adaptation Strategy takes on the role as the primary instrument at local level to:

  • ensure a proper comprehension of the key risks and vulnerabilities of climate change
  • bring forward the implementation of climate resilient actions in a planned and proactive manner and,
  • ensure that climate adaptation considerations are mainstreamed into all plans and policies and integrated into all operations and functions of Monaghan County Council.

Environmental Reports:

Accompanying the draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy is:

  • A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Report in accordance with the SEA Directive (DIR 2001/42/EC) and pursuant to European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (SI 435 of 2004 as amended by SI 200 of 2011) and,
  • An Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Report in accordance with the requirements of Article 6(3) of the EU Habitats Directive (Directive 92/43/EEC).

Any written submissions or observations received within the timeframe will be taken into consideration before the making of the strategy. You are invited to make written submissions/ observations in respect of the draft strategy and the accompanying SEA and AA screening reports.

Closing date for receipt of submission is midnight on Wednesday 26th June 2019

Community Enhancement Programme 2019

 

DEADLINE APPROACHING

 

Monaghan Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) announces deadline for the Community Enhancement Programme for 2019 is approaching. Closing date for receipt of applications is 30th May 2019, at 5pm.

 

Organisations eligible for funding include:

  • Locally based community and voluntary groups in disadvantaged areas,
  • Not-for-profit organisations, and
  • Government Departments and State Agencies.

Those not eligible for funding include:

  • Commercial organisations, individuals and for-profit organisations.

Projects or elements of project of a capital nature may be funded.

 

Note: Requests for assistance usually exceed the funds available. Applicants should be aware that the Programme is likely to be oversubscribed.  Therefore all applications fulfilling the conditions may not be successful or may be for a lesser amount.

 

Applications will be evaluated by the LCDC to ensure eligibility and consistence with the Local Economic and Community Plan 2016-2021 (LECP) which can be viewed at the following link https://monaghan.ie/communitydevelopment/local-economic-and-community-plan-lecp/

The exhibition will be on display in Carrickmacross Civic Offices from 22nd-28th May 2019 and in Clones Library Headquarters from 29th May to 5th June 2019.

N2 Blackwater Bridge Replacement

The new  temporary bailey bridge at Coolshannagh has opened today (15/5/2019) and will be in place for the next 12 months in order to facilitate the replacement of the Blackwater Bridge. A 30km speed limit is in operation over the bridge which allows two way traffic movement while works are ongoing.

Culture Night 2019, will take place on Friday 20 September 2019, and An tOirechatias are making efforts to ensure that there are more Irish language events on the programme this year.
