Climate Action Week 2026 takes place from 12th to 18th October and provides an opportunity for communities, schools, businesses and individuals across County Monaghan to come together and take positive action for the environment.
This year’s theme, “Act Local: Rethink, Repair, Reuse”, highlights the important role we all play in reducing waste, making better use of resources and building more sustainable communities. Throughout the week, a diverse programme of events and activities will showcase practical ways to take climate action in our daily lives, from repairing and reusing items to supporting biodiversity, reducing energy use and embracing circular economy principles.
With over 40 events and activities taking place across the county, there is something for everyone. From workshops, talks, biodiversity projects and climate cafés to repair and upcycling initiatives, family-friendly activities, gardening events and Storytimes, Climate Action Week offers plenty of opportunities to learn new skills, connect with others and discover practical ways to take climate action.
The programme also includes the Circular Economy in Action Conference: Rethink, Repair, Reuse, taking place on Saturday 17 October at Monaghan Peace Campus, bringing together local and national speakers to share ideas, projects and opportunities that support a more circular future.
Through the Climate Action Week Small Grants Scheme, Monaghan County Council has supported community groups across the county to deliver a wide range of locally-led events, helping to bring climate action directly into towns, villages and neighbourhoods. These events showcase the enthusiasm, creativity and leadership of local communities and demonstrate how small local actions can contribute to meaningful change.
