Drumlin Giants Young Artist Competition 2026
The Drumlin Giants live in the enchanting world of Rossmore Park. The Giants form an exciting trail through the forest that captivates the imaginations of visitors of all ages. Local author Paul Bond has written stories about the Drumlin Giants.
We are inviting young artists to create illustrations to accompany these stories. We are looking for artists to respond to the first story ‘Banba at the Gate’ and create their illustrations based on this story. The Judging panel will choose up to ten winners, who will be given the opportunity to develop further illustrations for the other stories in the book.
The winning entries will be featured in a Drumlin Giants book which will be read by children, young people and adults throughout Monaghan and beyond!

Rules
- Open to all students in 4th -6th class attending primary school in County Monaghan or 1st – 3rd year attending secondary school in County Monaghan.
- Entries must be submitted on the official entry form : Click here
- Deadline for entries is 5PM, Friday, 27th November 2026. Entries can be left into your local library (Ballybay, Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Clones or Monaghan) or posted to Creative Monaghan, Monaghan Library Headquarters, 98 Avenue, Clones, County Monaghan,
- One entry per student
- Entries should reflect the students own interpretation of the theme.
- All artwork must be in black/white, original, previously unpublished and copyright free.
- Use of AI is forbidden

What is the Creative Ireland Programme?
Creative Ireland connects people, creativity and wellbeing. It is an all-of-government culture and wellbeing programme that inspires and transforms people, places and communities through creativity.
We are committed to the vision that every person in Ireland should have the opportunity to realise their full creative potential.
Established in 2017, Creative Ireland was born out of Ireland 2016, the hugely successful state initiative to mark the hundredth anniversary of the Easter Rising. Through partnerships with local and national government, cultural and enterprise agencies and local enterprise, we create pathways and opportunities for people and communities to unlock their creative potential.
We believe in the power and creative potential of people, organisations and government departments working together, sharing expertise, to catalyse ideas and action. Through our focus and co-ordination, we will forge an eco-system of creativity.
The Programme is built around key themes:
Creative Youth, Creative Communities, Creative Health and Wellbeing, Creative Climate Action and Creative Industries.

Monaghan County Council has developed a new five year Cultural and Creativity Strategy 2023-2027 in association with Creative Ireland. Our vision is that by 2027, County Monaghan is a place where individuals and communities actively engage in cultural and creative opportunities which nurture our creative talent and mindset, whilst contributing to individual, social and economic benefits.
