Microsufacing
In 2025, Monaghan County Council delivered a programme of Microsurfacing works as a sustainable alternative to conventional hot mix asphalt patching. Microsurfacing involves applying a carefully engineered mix of bitumen emulsion, aggregates, water, and additives to the road surface, creating a thin but highly durable wearing course. The process is quick to apply, minimises disruption to road users, and extends the life of the pavement by sealing the surface against water ingress and restoring skid resistance. Following the Microsurfacing, surface dressing was carried out to further protect the pavement and provide an improved running surface. Together, these treatments offer a cost-effective and efficient solution for maintaining the road network while reducing environmental impacts compared to traditional methods.
