Drumlin Yarnspinners is a monthly oral storytelling session based in Monaghan Town Library. Sessions take place on the last Tuesday of every month and last for approximately two hours, with a break for a cup of tea. The sessions are led by Monaghan based Storyteller Francis McCarron, who has been sharing tales throughout Ireland for over 30 years. Guest tellers regularly take part in the sessions bringing stories from across Ireland and further afield. Over the past several years we have featured local tellers, tellers from across Ireland and from as far afield as Scotland, Germany, Turkey, Japan and Hawaii!  If you enjoy listening to or telling a tale, come along and join in!

Drumlin Storytelling Festival expands this oral tradition into a county wide three day event on the third weekend of September. From Bessmount House to Mullan Village and Cornagilta Heritage Centre, prepare to be transported by tales that stir the heart and spark the imagination. Whether you’re young or young at heart, a packed programme of events for all ages. Because in Monaghan, it’s not about whether the story is true—it’s about the truth within the story. Most events are free, though some require advance booking through Eventbrite.
