Take part in survey to help reach zero emission goal

The FASTER Project is calling on members of the public to share their attitudes on electric vehicles and sustainable transport

June 2022: Motorists and transport users across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are urged to take part in a survey to help identify barriers preventing them from transitioning to electric vehicles.

The aim is for local authorities to gain a better understanding of people’s changing attitudes and behaviours towards electric vehicles and sustainable transport systems to help facilitate the relevant infrastructures in the surrounding areas.

The survey, commissioned by INTERREG and delivered by Transport Research Partners is supported by the FASTER Project, a joint initiative across Scotland, Ireland, and Northern Ireland that supports a model shift to zero emission and sustainable forms of transport.

The FASTER Project will install 73 new rapid charging stations for electric vehicles across the three project regions. The initiative has received €6.4 million EU INTERREG VA funding to further increase awareness of the sustainable options available to motorists and road users.

Match funding has been provided by the Department for Infrastructure (NI), Transport Scotland and the Department for Transport (Ireland).

The Cross Border Local Authority led Organisation East Border Region Ltd are the lead delivery partner for the FASTER Project and commenting on this call to the public, Chairperson Cllr Michelle Hall said:

“The East Border Region are delighted to be leading this exciting and necessary project. Electric vehicles are the future and as Local Authorities, the onus is on us to lead the way and provide the necessary infrastructure to effect change.

“We would encourage everyone to participate in the survey in order to help us determine attitudinal change and the most appropriate methods to support change going forward.”

Donal Monaghan, Project officer, who manages the behavioural change programme for the FASTER Project at South West College added:

“The steady increase in the number of electric passenger and commercial vehicle  registrations proves a growing acceptance of a more sustainable transport system. Over the past 12 months, we have been working closely with agencies across the UK and Ireland, local authorities, government departments and electric vehicle user groups to support this transition.

“There are endless benefits of electric vehicles and other forms of sustainable transport, and we understand with the rising cost of fuel prices, people are reconsidering their mode of transport. Therefore, it is important that the public take this opportunity to make their voices heard and let us know exactly how we can support them on their travel choices.”

Survey respondents will be entered into a prize draw with the opportunity to win a £100 Amazon Gift Card. The closing date for the receipt of completed surveys is Friday 15^th July.

Confirmation Order

 MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL

Notice of the making of a Confirmation Order by Monaghan County Council of a Compulsory Purchase Order made under section 76 of and the Third Schedule to the Housing Act, 1966, as extended by Section 10 of the Local Government (No.2) Act, 1960, as respects all or part of the land to which the Compulsory Purchase Order relates to be published in accordance with Section 78 (1) of the Housing Act, 1966, as amended by the Planning and Development Act, 2000.

Compulsory Acquisition of Land

Monaghan County Council Compulsory Purchase Order No [1] 2022.

Monaghan County Council (hereinafter referred to as the Local Authority) has, on the 7^th June 2022 made a confirmation order confirming the above-named Compulsory Purchase Order as respects the land described in the CPO Plot Listing hereto.

The said order, as so confirmed, authorises Monaghan County Council to acquire the said lands compulsorily.  A copy of the order as so confirmed and of the map referred to in it may be seen at all reasonable hours at the offices of Monaghan County Council, Ballybay/Clones Municipal District Offices, The Diamond, Clones, Co. Monaghan.

The order, as so confirmed will become operative at the expiration of three weeks after the date of publication of this notice but if an application for judicial review of the decision of the local authority under Order 84 of the Rules of the Superior Courts (S.I. HAVE YOUR SAY ON HOUSING DELIVERY IN COUNTY MONAGHAN!

Monaghan County Council has engaged consultants KPMG Future Analytics to carry out an analysis of existing housing provision in the County, as well as a review of progress on the delivery of housing units on zoned residential land in the County Development Plan 2019-2025, and is seeking contributions from Landowners, Approved Housing Bodies, Planning Agents, Estate Agents and Lending Providers to identify issues affecting the delivery of private housing units within the towns and the villages in the County.

The Housing Provision Review will build up detailed understanding of County Monaghan, assessing concepts of previous plans, and generating new stakeholder-led ideas for the sustainable delivery of both private and social housing in the County. In particular, the Review will include a comprehensive analysis of the issues affecting the delivery of private housing units within the towns and villages of County Monaghan. This will enable an evidence-based approach to guide the recommendations to be set out in the final report.

The key specific inputs sought from stakeholders are on the issues preventing or delaying:-

• The release of zoned proposed residential lands for housing developments.
• The bringing forward of planning proposals for housing developments on zoned proposed residential lands.
• The commencement of permitted housing developments on zoned proposed residential lands.
• The completion or sale of permitted housing developments on zoned proposed residential lands.

Views are also being sought from stakeholders on:

• Whether or not the provisions of Core Strategy of the County Development Plan and subsequent quantum of zoned Proposed Residential A and B lands are preventing or delaying the supply of private housing units.
• Whether or not the provision of significant social housing developments on zoned proposed residential lands are preventing or reducing the supply of private housing units.

 

 

Surveys

Specific surveys have been designed for the various stakeholders to allow Monaghan County Council to develop a comprehensive understanding of specific issues affecting the delivery of housing in County Monaghan. These surveys can be accessed at www.monaghan.ie/planning/housing-provision-review/

MONAGHAN COMPANY WINS AT NATIONAL ENTERPRISE AWARDS

 Streat School Ltd.  who are supported by Local Enterprise Office Monaghan, were winners at this year’s National Enterprise Awards. The awards, which took place at the Mansion House in Dublin, are in their 23^rd year and run annually by the Local Enterprise Offices.

Streat School Ltd. took home the One to Watch Award.  The company manufacture and brand bespoke coffee & hot food trailers for customers. They also offer their unique industry expertise and mentoring in the form of workshops & seminars to help both startups and existing businesses.

Congratulating the local winner, Briege Quinn from LEO Monaghan commented, ‘This has been an extremely challenging year for small businesses and the National Enterprise Awards recognise all that is good about entrepreneurship in Ireland.  There were some excellent winners and the calibre of finalists this year was as high as ever. Streat School Limited are very deserving winners of this year’s One to Watch Award and the team in Local Enterprise Office Monaghan are very proud of their achievements.”

The overall winner at the National Enterprise Awards was Wicklow aquaculture and offshore wind company, Aqualicense.  Established in 2019 by Kate Dempsey the company has gone from strength to strength.

The company engages in consultation, planning, legal compliance and project delivery on behalf of companies in the aquaculture and offshore renewable energy industries.

They expanded their operations into the highly regulated offshore renewable energy sector in 2021 which has helped the company grow considerably and they are now looking to expand their expertise into new markets internationally.

Several other companies won across a range of categories at the Awards, which were established by the Local Enterprise Offices to celebrate the impact and quality of small businesses across the country.

The Best Start-Up category was won by Acoustic Interiors supported by Local Enterprise Office Offaly.  The business improves the health, wellbeing and productivity of people through intelligent acoustic design and fit-out of homes, offices and buildings.

The Green/Sustainability Award went to Cirtex, supported by Local Enterprise Office Longford.  The company have created a closed-loop manufacturing business that upcycles the materials from duvets and mattresses, most of which are imported, to be reused in new products.

The Best Export category was won by Professional Hair Labs supported by Local Enterprise Office Wexford.  The family run business is a manufacturer and distributor of cosmetic products including GHOSTBOND, the world’s leading product for hair adhesive solutions.

The Innovation Award went to Cubbie who are supported by Local Enterprise Office Mayo.  The installation, which is in over 200 schools across Ireland, enables students with neurodiversity or sensory challenges to regulate their senses with a bespoke programme to ensure their learning and academic experience is not adversely affected.

This year’s winners share a €50,000 investment fund and eight regional winners were also announced on the night.  Those winners are –

• Farmony in the Dublin Region (backed by LEO Fingal)
• Torpey in the South West Region (backed by LEO Clare)
• Salutem Insights in the Mid East Region (backed by LEO Laois)
• SmartRoutes in the South Region (backed by LEO Cork City)
• FeedAlpha in the South East Region (backed by LEO Carlow)
• Tantek 4D in the North West Region (backed by LEO Sligo)
• Aine’s Chocolate in the North East Region (backed by LEO Cavan)
• Studio Meala in the West Region (backed by LEO Roscommon) 

  There was also an Outstanding Achievement Award presented on the night to an individual or company who has excelled in recent years.  This award went to ABC Nutritionals from Clare.  The Shannon based business, established in 2007 are a private label manufacturer of sports, weight management and lifestyle nutrition products.  They have double their workforce and turnover since 2018 with 68 now employed and hope to reach 100 by 2025 with a new facility in development.

  Previous winners of the National Enterprise Awards include Irish Yoghurts (1998), Obelisk (2000), Simtech Aviation (2008), Digiweb (2004) and Design Pro (2013), Terra NutriTech (2018) and Pestle & Mortar (2019).  The last winners in 2021 were Bevcraft, who were supported by Local Enterprise Office Westmeath.  Europe’s only mobile canning company have gone from strength to strength since winning the award, opening new hubs across the continent.
