Monaghan County Council engaged of the Consultant team: Sheridan Woods Architects and Urban Planners and Venture International who facilitated 3 public meetings along with many hours of meetings with individuals and groups, to ensure a thorough community engagement, bringing forward all the ideas from the community resulting in Vision Plans for Drum & Rockcorry villages. Funding for these Visions Plans was secured from the Department of Rural & Community Development (DRCD) under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme and match funding was provided by the Municipal District of Ballybay-Clones.
In preparing the vision plans the aim was to involve the community members in the planning process, ensuring that their vision reflects the collective aspirations, values and priorities of the community.
To clearly outline the desired direction and future for the community by setting defined goals, identify key strategies and priorities that will contribute to the overall vision of the community and to identify many potential funding options from a range of departments and organisations.
The plans provide for opportunities for the community to progress smaller actions, and to build incrementally towards the delivery of more substantial actions, that may be supported by the local authority and other agencies.
Rockcorry Vision:
‘To create a sustainable attractive, accessible and vibrant village for Rockcorry residents communities, businesses and visitors, that builds on the existing social, economic, cultural and environmental heritage, supporting adaptation and reuse of existing structures, consolidation of the village, while adopting a people first approach to the public realm, enhancing connections to the natural environment, and creating a sustainable neighbourhood and place to live, work, recreate and socialise in the village centre.’
The plan has identified the following;
ROCKCORRY plan contains 36 actions under 6 aims or themes:
- Community spaces – social, leisure and recreation
- Economic Development and Employment
- Digital Transformation
- Built heritage for future generations
- Natural heritage and biodiversity
- Places for People – Rockcorry as a Destination
The scope of the plan is to facilitate a long-term vision for Rockcorry village and its hinterlands and to identify and help prioritise projects from the development of Rockcorry to 2030 and beyond. The Plan has been prepared to support a long-term community-led village development and takes a long-term holistic overview of key opportunities and projects that will facilitate long-term socio-economic, cultural and environmental benefits for residents, communities, businesses and visitors.
