Monaghan Local Development Committee is a committee of the Local Authority, it was established in September 2014. It is a 17 member committee made up of 8 Statutory members and 9 Non Statutory Members. LCDC’s were established in all Local Authorities including Monaghan as part of Local Government Reform Act 2014 and have been given a statutory remit in developing and co-ordinating the delivery of local and community development programmes in their functional area.
Monaghan LCDC’s main task was to develop and implement a 6 year Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) for County Monaghan.
It is one of the key decision making structures in County Monaghan, as it brings together all the key local decision making organisations in the county, to work together to improve economic and community development.

Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) 2023-2029
Monaghan LECP 2023-2029 will guide the sustainable, economic and community development of the county over the next 6 years. It will cover a wide spectrum of initiatives in areas such as inclusion, wellbeing, education, employment, innovation and sustainability.
This new LECP for County Monaghan is aligned with key policies at local, regional and national level. These include the Monaghan County Development Plan 2019-2025, Monaghan Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2019-2024 and Monaghan’s Digital Strategy 2021-2025. Monaghan LECP 2023-2029 will be a shared plan, built upon the perspectives of a range of stakeholders, including the Monaghan Public Participation Network (PPN), local business leaders and the wider community across the County.
The plan’s vision is:
“ Monaghan will continue to be an attractive and welcoming County with vibrant communities and a diverse economy, built around wellbeing, innovation, prosperity and sustainability.”
