The Summer Stars reading challenge is in full swing at Monaghan County Libraries.
Up to 3,000 children across Co. Monaghan will take on the challenge to read up to 8 books across the Summer months.
Participating in the Summer reading challenge should be a fun thing for children but it also has numerous benefits.
- Reading over the Summer helps reduce the risk of a ‘Summer Slump’ in Reading levels.
- Regular reading enhances vocabulary, comprehension & overall literacy skills.
- It encourages a love of reading for pleasure – children can choose books based on their own interests rather than prescribed reading.
- Completing the reading challenge can give children a great sense of accomplishment and a boost their confidence in their own reading ability.
All children are welcome to participate but library membership is required. (It’s free to join the library). Each child will receive a Summer Stars book bag, bookmark, pencil and reading record card.
